The late '60's - When the Ringsruds became a Two-Car Family
1968 After four years in Mississippi, that Galaxy was driven to South Dakota for the family's "last move" to the Black Hills. Then Rian took it back to Mississippi with him as his second car after the '57 Chevy. This was the summer, before we left Ole Miss that the Family Car changed to a 1966 Plymouth Fury with a 318 motor. I remember this as the car that I learned to drive in (and the car that I sometimes stole at night to go cruising).
1968 Another 'second car was the 1965 Dodge Pickup with a big 383 motor and no weight on the rear wheels (does that make you want to do a burnout?).
1969 The Pickup gets traded for a four-wheel drive International Harvestor Scout. This is the one Mom drove off into the ditch (see Ringsruds Greatest Crashes).
1969 The Plymouth Fury gets traded in for (gasp!) a 1969 Dodge Charger, to my high schooler's instincts, the coolest, sexiest car on the planet. I didn't even mind the automatic transmission. I never crashed it but as a Senior in high school, I pushed it to its limits a few times.
The Present EraSince the two sons, Rian and Ron, both headed to college and adulthood with their own cars, it will be a job of future historians to document the continuing automotive saga of The Ringsrud family (do you hear that, Knute and Eric?). I'll leave it off here but Rian, keep track of any old photos of our family cars that you may have so that these pages can be updated occasionally. And send pictures of the '57.
